I don’t know. The assumption on all sides remains that they will.
But the level of criminality, of venality, of mass murder, that a Democratic Congress might uncover makes me wonder:
- An entire nation lies devastated, 100,000 or more of its citizens dead, no closer to freedom than the day we got there, and all based on lies.
- One of our great cities is still missing. Gone, with no hope of return. And not just New Orleans, but its suburbs and the Mississippi Gulf Coast besides. Been to Waveland lately? Bay St. Louis? Biloxi? And this coming hurricane season could be worse?
- We’ve seen the greatest transfer of wealth from the people to the few the world has ever seen. We, as a nation, are bankrupt.
- We’ve seen the greatest corruption in our history, and when it’s discovered we give the same people more money?
- The willful destruction of the environment
- Torture on a scale never seen before on this continent. Laws to stop it willfully ignored.
- Massive spying on Americans, not just Al Qaeda terrorists but ordinary Democrats, with more and more insane justifications for it.
I don’t know. Would you want to let Democrats to investigate all this – and more?
Or might it seem easier to stage a real coup. Jail journalists and close newspapers if they dare seek the truth. Send the military out to monitor bloggers and identify future enemies.
Face it, people. The President of the United States is a habitual liar. He lies about big stuff, and about little stuff, too. The people around him are crooks, with no remorse, no conscience.
They control the White House, the Congress, the courts, and the military. If they feel their power threatened, you really think they will go quietly?
The gulags are already being prepared. You think those Halliburton jails are just for Mexicans?
Of course, having written this, I know, I’m a goner if it comes to that. But what are you going to do if I’m right? Just because it hasn’t happened here doesn’t mean it can’t. Argentina thought that, Brazil thought that, and Iraq is the bloody cradle of all civilization – yet it happened there.
So it can. Although it might not.
But I’m no longer so sure.
