The difference between an iPad and a laptop is that the iPad is a true client. It is not built for creating, but for consuming. And that will change many people's relationship to the Internet — not in a good way.

I’m a big fan of your writing and outlook, but your off-the-mark observation is ironic indeed, coming at the very time movie and music creation apps are being demoed ..
Apple != perfect, but _no_ other company has done nearly as much to make good creation tools available to the hoi polloi.
That said, keep up the good work!

I appreciate if somebody can tell me what devices are required to reach maximum speed and sharing internet between my iPad and laptop.

I’ve got my Coby MID7015 ($150 7″ tablet) loaded for web page creation. I’ve used it to edit a template page for the web, then uploaded it with ftp and viewed the newly created pages on the web. I’m using it for a travel journal, text, photos, text.
The only major pain is just the absence of a keyboard. Try typing as fast as you think when you’re using a touch screen with a stylus!
Glad you’re still writing and I found your site post-ZDNet.

Thanks for the responses, Dan, yours and the others. They’re gratifying to get. I think there’s wisdom in what you and the others say.
I will have a longer post later today that will respond to these interesting comments.
